Sign up form (AI prototype)

Role: Product designer

Three mobile screens of the Atheneum app showing the login and signup process, including email login and a multi-field signup form with example user details.

Situation

Atheneum, a platform that connects organisations with global experts, had a dedicated app, but users couldn’t self-register. This limited the platform’s ability to onboard new experts efficiently.

Task

Our goal was to design a signup flow that captured the necessary data to ensure we were onboarding quality, relevant experts. The process needed to be seamless and also integrate a third-party validation tool to verify expert credentials.

Project success

✅ Reducing the time from design to user feedback to under 24 hours by using AI-generated prototypes.

✅ Early Detection of functional issues (e.g., date of birth field) were identified during testing, not during development.

✅ Getting feedback from real users confirmed the form was intuitive, needing only minor tweaks to improve the experience.

Action

With the required data points defined, our initial plan was to design the form and create a clickable prototype for early validation. However, after discussions with the team, we explored using AI tooling (specifically Bolt AI) to generate a coded prototype more quickly.

Using Bolt AI, we were able to rapidly build and share a functional prototype with real users. This allowed us to test both the UX and the functionality at the same time, which was a big advantage over our usual process.

Result

The final form was built using existing design system components, ensuring consistency with the broader product. We released it to a small group of users for early validation and to identify any usability issues before a wider rollout.

  • "The form was straightforward and easy to fill out. The only thing that was a bit tricky was selecting my date of birth, it could be a little more user-friendly.”

Outcome

This project was a great example of how AI tools can accelerate the design process. By using AI to generate a working prototype, we were able to move from idea to user feedback within a single day, dramatically speeding up our usual timeline.

Personal highlights

  • Learned how AI tools like Bolt AI can enhance the design process and validate ideas faster.

  • Identified functional issues earlier than usual, which would typically have been discovered during development, saving the team time and rework.
